I am trying to reinstall my operating system as I do every few months with my windows xp professional cd (same cd all the time), this time I put it in and my computer wont read in on boot-up or even show that there is a cd in the drive when the computer is on.... all other cd's work perfectly.
What could be the problem?
Update:The CD is spotless, not a single scratch on it.

Why do you reinstall your OS every few months?
I wouldn't go so far as to say it is dead, is it scratched? If you have tried cleaning it and that didn't work then maybe there is somewhere you can take take that does it professionally. I had a disc once that was scratched something fierce, took it and had it cleaned(it cost me about $3), works like brand new. You will have to ask around in your area to see if there is somewhere that does this.
go into your bios and set the boot sequence.. set the cd player as number one and the hard disk as number two.. the save the changes and exit it should boot to the cd.. oh have the cd in the drive .....
it is a common problem. ur cd is dead, no cd can last forever. Get a new one and don,t reinstall or format windows regularly unless it's absolutely necessary.
Never heard of anybody constantly re-installing their Windows as a regular routine
you have a 64bit version of your cpu. determine you have a 64bit version of domicile windows xp. If no longer then it won't paintings. It seems such as you have a 32bit version of windos xp.
your cd may be damaged
use tour recovery partition instead
