In Cleveland I would recommend the Great Lakes Science Center, they have an entire floor dedicated to the environment. It's located right downtown near the lake. You can also visit the Cleveland Botanical Garden, which is in University Circle, there are tons of other museums to see in that area too.

And of course there are zoos throughout the state of Ohio. They are located in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo and Akron.
