My 4 yr old German Shepherd loves the corn cob. I don't think there as anything wrong with it, and he hasn't had any problems. Any one know if this is ok?
Many dogs love to chew on corn cobs -- most love the taste of the salt, butter, and bits of corn, plus they are just fun to chew. However... corn cobs can cause intestinal obstruction, a very serious (and potentially fatal) medical condition. Additionally, some dogs are allergic to corn and can suffer intestinal effects from allergy as well as the cob obstruction.
Please keep all cobs away from your dog, safely secured in the trash. Dogs can be very "creative" when they want something in the trash, so make sure that the garbage is emptied or otherwise access protected from your pet.
If you suspect your dog has eaten a cob (or any food or foreign material that they shouldn't have), please call your vet as soon as possible. The sooner, the better!
Signs seen with intestinal obstruction may include: vomiting or dry heaves, diarrhea (or straining), anorexia, painful abdomen, lethargy.
no, con on the cob is bad news. There have been cases where dogs have died from obstruction from the cob. Especialy with a german shepherd (which is what I have) he could swallow it with no problem. They think of it as food, and if he gets carried away.. Underneath is a link that includes corn on the cob, on a list of many other things dogs shouldnt eat
Corn cobs are very bad for dogs as they can not digest the actual cob. It gets stuck in the gut and needs to be removed. It is not an easy routine surgery and I have had a dog die under the anesthetic while we were looking for the cob.
Scrape the corn off so he can eat it normally in his dish, you can buy it in a can, sont give it to him on the cob but there is nothing wrong with dogs having sweetcorn as long as its not on the cob
I have a German Shepherd mix and I'd be afraid to let her actually try to eat a corncob. Of course, the baby dog is kind of small for a Shepherd. Looks like you have the full-sized model.
Make sure that he drinks LOTS of water so that it can move through his intestine and on out the other side.
My dog always eats corn cobs. I don't think there is anything wrong with it as long as he doesn't choke on it. Some dogs don't chew their food very well.

From University of Minnesota> Do not feed dogs corn cobs. Dogs cannot digest corn cobs and they will often need to be surgically removed from their stomach.< http://www1.umn.edu/umnnews/Feature_Stories/Summer...

We have had to do many surgeries to remove corn cobs from dogs. Not pleasant or cheap.
if he eats the cob as well as the corn, this is very dangerous, blocks the intestine, big trouble

It is better he eats corn on the cob than in a freezer pack, cuase dogs don't like frozen food.....
