Hello I just bought Call of duty Black ops and its laggs a lot 23-40fps(Video Card - HD5770) So my cpu is to slow. So a Friend is giving me his old motherboard and cpu. So im just wondering if its a good upgrade for gaming. For games like COD black ops, Starcraft 2, and civilization. SO

For free, it is a great upgrade.
You do realize that you will still be about 3 generations behind for a processor.
AMD is a new CPU that came about 1 year after Pentium 4 was made. SO i would really recommend upgrading to that. But the CPU still not good enough for gaming. The best is Core i7. But if that upgrade is the only available one, i suggest upgrading it to that newer one.
Steven is correct. You also might check the motherboard to see what is the best processor that you can upgrade it to. AMD motherboards are much more compatible with future chips than Intel, which always changes the socket. AMD changes them, but not as frequently.
That is a very good upgrade compared to what you had previously.
Just know that you will need DDR2 RAM for the new motherboard, the old RAM will not work.
Remember that it is unlikely that an Intel copy of Windows will run with out problems on AMD hardware. You will probably have to reformat your hard drive and re-install everything.
