I am servicing a Craftsman lawn tractor and the starter is running backwards and the solenoid is noisey. I have changed the plug, battery, solenoid, and starter. Same results. I think it is a short or wiring problem but I could use some advice. I've been servicing my neighborhood's small engines for years and this one has me a bit irritated. Please help. Thanks in advance

Never mind the color of the battery cables. Look at the battery and find the pos + cable and follow it down to make sure it is hooked to the starter. The neg - cable will be hooked to the chassis or the engine block. Its common for Craftsman starters to be noisy.
