Why are there so many cultural differences? and What are the influences that shape people's culture? and lastly, what are examples of why people do the things they do? i'm learning this in history and i just don't understand the notes and things we do. i have a major test coming and we need to know this. i've asked my teacher for a better unerstanding, but i just don't get it.

People lived on their own continents, with generally similar looking people and similar religion for thousands of years. It's only within recent history that cheap transportation has allowed us to mix with others, causing cultural differences to become more obvious.
one of the best ways to understand ur subject is to actually live it. go outside ur comfort zone and interact with all kinds of different people. back in 06, for example, i sat down with a bunch of Somalis and Ethiopians, and we ate little cardboard containers of Chinese food using nothing but our fingers. u might ask: how does this work? u pinch the food and just eat it. after wards, u just rip out some grass and wipe ur hands until they're clean. this is just one example that might help u understand, but there is no substitute for actual experience...
what influences culture? many factors: geography, climate, resources, demographics, etc. for example, look at some modern African countries that specialize in producing meat for export. cows are very hungry; in places where all u have is grassland, these animals should not be mass-produced. back in the day when kings had much power, a herd of goats, camels, or cows was considered a status symbol. so that means modern capitalism is forcing the average joe to buy a Benz just to survive... hope that makes sense..
People from primitive ages allocated themselves some space and stayed together, as there had been different places, there had been development of different cultures according to socio-economic conditions

just giving lecture.... never mind...
Lifestyle, like religion, what they eat, peoples surroundings, personalities etc.
