Ecological backlash involves the counter-responses of pest populations or other biotic factors in the environment that diminish the effectiveness of pest management tactics. Many of these counter responses result from heavy mortality burdens imposed by the pest management tactics. Other responses arise from disruption of ecological processes or changes in resource levels of the biotic community. Ecological backlash mainly manifests in the form of resistance, resurgence, and replacement- the three "R" s of pest management awareness.
An ecological backlash is when there is a backlash/war against the human race by an intellectually inferior species, such as apes.
The Planet Of The Apes starring Tina Turner and Arnold Schwarzenegger was a popular film depicting this scenario, it came out in 1827. Critics rushed to bomb-proof shelters in their back yards for fear of a physically real repercussion of said film.
3 years later, after the consumption of many a nutrient-free earwig, these gaunt, pale critics emerged from their subterranean dwellings to search for the magical chocolate biscuit, which would alleviate their 3 years of hell, combat vitamin deficiency, and fully recover their bodies physically, mentally, and emotionally.
The only problem was that the biscuit was in a little trinket on top of Mount Kilimanjaro, protected by savage African tribesmen who had no fear of outsiders, and were willing to literally do anything to protect their sacred treasure (including temporarily mutating into demonic ostriches with chainsaws for wings.)
Their was a great war atop the mountain; lo and behold, the critics pulled through with a sheer mix of grit and determination, and the man who took the first bite of the biscuit was a youngster by the name of L.Ron Hubbard, who his wisdom and newly obtained strength to found the religion of Scientology. He then spent his life fishing along the River Nile with a magic, unlimited bottle of Cherry Coca Cola in his backpack, because that's what he wanted more than anything ever ever ever.
The unexpected and detrimental consequences of an environmental modification (e.g. dam construction) which may outweigh the gains anticipated from the modification scheme.
There are many who believe that environmentalists are extremists who will hold back progress towards a better life for all. The opposition to environmentalism is not one unified movement, but rather comes from several groups, which do not necessarily agree with each other on all issues. Issues of property rights, economic growth, and the right and ability of humans to use and "rework" the earth are all important here.
