What is the difference between Private and NHS dentists charges? I'm with a National Health Dentist but always get charged for work done. He's quite far away and I would like to change to someone nearer, but expect I will have to go private, how will this affect costs?

New NHS charges are:
£15.50 for check up
£42.40 if you need fillings or extractions- this is good as it includes all of the work provided you have it all done in 2 months.
£189 this is if you need something more advanced like a crown or denture.
Some treatments are not available on NHS such as white fillings in certain teeth and white crowns.
Private on the other hand can ba any price. Check ups can be around £30, extractions around £10 per tooth!! Best to check how much work you actually need and price yo local dentist first!
NHS direct can help you find an NHS dentist in your area. 08454647
Good luck
Hi, I live in Devon and find it impossible to register with an NHS Dentist. I have been using a private dentist for some years. A check up costs me around £50. Last year I had a cap break which needed to be replaced, cost £395. My wife has a dental plan with her FORMER NHS DENTIST. She pays £19/month, but still has to pay for some treatment. She recently had a tooth out and one added to 3 tooth plate. Cost £75. Hope this gives you some idea. AND GOOD LUCK.
NHS dentists have a fixed price scale for there work..
If u are going private check first for all the charges before the dentist starts any work.try and see a price list of charges..
I spent over 800 quid for root canal work and a new crown for one of my back teeth privately...If I went NHS it probably would be less but I was in so much pain I had no choice. Also the closest HNS dentist to me was about 10 miles away and there was a 8 month waiting list ..So really I had no choice..He did a good job anyway ..I can't really comment on the quality on the NHS work but as they say you get what u pay for...
Anyway good luck
If you have an NHS dentist stay with him they are like gold dust !
I have to go private because there are no NHS dentists where I
live.I am paying an absolute fortune for a bad service The problem is you only find out it was a bad service after you've paid ! This system absolutely stinks !!!
So keep your dentist !
With NHS treatment all you pay for is the materials the dentist uses. If you go private you pay for his.her time, some of his on-costs such as staff, rent, electric, phone etc.
Might be cheaper looking at private dental insurance...about £20 a month
This morning I lost a tooth in a small accident and one of the first questions I see is a blasted dental question.
I believe privates are more expensive, but usually they work just that bit more precise. I'm afraid my accident won't come cheap. I have a private dentist myself and he definitely knows how to charge.
£30 pounds for normal checkup wiv polish and shine IF u need it. and thats it and xray u get too in private in all that £30. NHS: u get just a check up and scale and polish IF u need it in £15.they dont always give it and make an excuse that u dint need it when u did!believe me, its happened to me and i wanted it but dint get it coz of the above reason lazy ****! and they very arsy coz they dont get paid much. i would private but only like once evry 2 yrs or if u got problem then. but if u need filling or sumthing it is more than £100 i fing or get tooth extracted. out of this world! silly too so have an NHS too incase for filings and tooth extractions! good luck.
private dentists charge a lot more, i have recently had a lot of work done and i saved a fortune by getting it done on the Nhs!
the NHS tend to pay for part or all of the treatment, with private you pay for all of it. This means that private dental care is more costly. The good thing about private dental is that they tend to be better equipped and look after their patients better as they are solely relying on return business (after all you aren't going to pay a butcher a fortune to do your teeth when you can get better treatment elsewhere)
It will make a great difference to price trust me on this, the NHS still gives discount to working people but private does not the price will probably triple for treatments.
