I had a gold crown placed on my 3rd molar from the back on the bottom. The tooth had a RC when I was young but just recently got the crown. The tooth is made of mostly filling material. I now notice there is what looks like a hole on the gum below the crown. This hole looks black and there is pain when I chew there. I floss the area and it smells real bad. the gum itself isn't red and there are no other "holes" there. What could this be from. I'm going to dentist Monday morning
Update:looks like a hole in the gum under the crown

Sounds like there has been some leakage at the margin of the crown at the gum line. It needs to be looked at and you may end up needing a new crown. Good luck.
?? hole in crown or hole on gum? it sound like you have some leakage with a start of a cavity. Or it cound be that the crown is loose and there is food getting under it, that maybe why there is a smell
