Really there is no way to describe it. Like you said...you know its painful. But you don't know what it is like until you go through it. I can sit here all day and describe my experience but yours will be totally different.
Labor is a pain that you have to go through to really know about it!! You can listen to peoples horror stories but actually they are just other peoples stories. I am a mother of three and I read so much my first time pregnant that I was ready for anything...LOL!
Labor is intense. It is painful but nothing you can't handle! You can be eased into it these days with drugs and I would advise all to use them because there is no reason that a woman should go through unnecessary pain! It's the worst pain you can actually experience. On a scale from one to ten it has to be a hundred. The pain starts off with enough time in between contractions that you have time to recover but when the active labor really hits it just exhausts you.
The movies with screaming and shouting and things of that nature are a waist of energy and time!! All of your energy is needed to push a new life into the world. It's a pain so great that you would only assume that the pain would slowly and eventually go away but as soon as the baby's shoulders and body slip out, IT IS OVER!!!
Just imagine someone you don't like and wishing a pain on them, IT WOULDN'T BE LABOR, you wouldn't wish that on your worst enemy. You think about never going through it again but when you hold that little person in your arms and those tears run down your cheeks honestly you can't describe the actual pain when it's over. Our bodies are wonderful and they can handle so much!!
It is different for everyone. Some people say that it is easy, others have a really hard time with it. Personally, I had a hard time. It felt like i had a charlie horse going up and down my spine for 3 hours straight. My epidural didn't work. My bestfriend however, pushed that baby out in an hour with no pain at all. It really is different for everyone.
Well I was drugged up because I had a c-section. My half-sister had a natural birth and told me to look at it this way: Think of the most pain you have ever been in. Child birth is worse.
I have a good friend though who says having her teeth pulled without anesthesia was worse pain than when she had her kids though, so I guess it depends on the person.
