diabetes mellitus is a disorder in which there is too much sugar in the blood. It is caused by a lack of an important hormone called insulin, which is made by the pancreas.

There are two types of diabetes, Type 1 is known as juvinile-onset diabetes or insulin-dependant diabetes mellitus. It occurs mainly in young people, and because their pancreas's produce very little insulin they require insulin injections. The cause is not known exactly.

Diabetes is usually hereditary. Obesity can play a factor in it also, although even if nobody in your family has ever had it and if you are not obese, you can still get it.
