so i woke up around 8:00, laid there for an hour trying to go back to sleep and i finally got sleepy again. I remember i was thinking about lucid dreaming because that's something i've been trying to do over the last couple years on and off (never had one though) and i was considering trying to induce one then. But I decided I didn't want to so I just laid there on my back and then I felt my body go "numb", it does that when i try to lucid dream but this felt more pronounced..and i'm not sure if i was already asleep at this point and was just dreaming this..so anyway then I was thinking about sleep paralysis so i tried moving my arms, head and legs but i couldn't. Whenever i looked left and right with my eyes there was what looked like thin strings of black ink floating around (different than my normal floaters that are there when i'm awake). Then I felt a bite on my leg like there was some kind of animal down there, a dog or something but i couldn't see anything since i couldn't lift my head. And I heard knocking on my door or a door somewhere. And then I woke up for real and I have no clue if I dreamt about sleep paralysis or if that actually happened.....I feel like what i saw in the "paralysis" was kind of fuzzy so that's what's making me think I just dreamt about it, but I'm not sure. help!

This experience is a common mode of sleep paralysis, it is rare however, for it to come at your will.
If you want more lucid dreams, or any dreams, you need to start logging anything you remember ana attempt to interpret them, this allows your mind to wander more in sleep, as your mind when awake or asleep, will work in the same modes of motivation, head toward the same actions and goals and if one of those goals is dreaming, then you mind will play out that pursuit.
Dreams are often seen as personal inner journeys of self discovery and spiritual enlightenment.
