Sporadic means now and then, chronic means all the time.
If your company manufactured silverware for example, maybe you would occassionally have problems with the plating process that caused the silverware to be rejected. It could be caused by contaminated chemicals, an interuption in the power coming into the plant or a temporary employee. Those would be considered sporadic problems.
If the machinery to dip the silverware into the vats malfunctioned every week so that a batch of silverware had to be reworked or rejected that would be considered a chronic mechanical and quality problem because it's occuring more than once and in a relatively close time span.
