Just wondering if its okay to get a camera lens from another brand, something like that, and put it on a different camera ( example: a kodak lens on a panasonic camera) I'm not a genius on cameras, but I wanted to get one for my mom for Christmas and there are lenses more expensive than others. So pretty much if the lens fits the camera will it work?
Update:Most likely getting her a canon, Nikon, or an olympus

It's nice of you that you want to make such an expensive gift to your mom, but i'd strongly advise against this choice of a gift.
E.g. Canon, Nikon and Olympus, the brands that you listed, do not make any lenses for cameras of other brands. Their lenses are only for their own cameras.
Also, your mom might not even have a camera that can exchange lenses at all. Which camera does she have, what lenses does she already have, and what kind of photos does she take?
And finally, it might simply not be the kind of lens that she needs.
You cannot generally make a satisfactory combination of, say, Nikon and Canon lens/body. But there are independent lens brands, notably Tamron, Sigma, and Tokina, which make lenses for each brand of camera. But you must specify when buying the lens what camera it is for.
Pretty much. The lens will most likely have a "For Nikon" or "For Canon" description on it/the box. Just make sure the lens and camera share the same mount.
