If u have good credit, and u had a cell phone before and u finished the contract on time and all of ur pay ments were on time, then the shouldn't charge u a deposit
now if u have bad credit because u had a cell phone and u made the payments late and u finished the contract early and u still owe them then look forward to a 150$ to 275$ deposit.
All postpaid cell phone companies i.e verizon, cingular t-mobile run credit on custmers before providing service. if you rate poorly a deposit is required. If you pay your bill on time for a year you can request to have the deposit refunded with interest. The reason this is in place is to protect the cell phone comapny from those who will just run up a high bill and not pay
I know that some companies used to require a deposit if the purchaser did not score well with the credit check, but I don't know if they still do that or not.

Companies like Virgin Mobile just require you to buy the phone and pay-as-you-go. No deposit necessary.

There's no reason for a deposit. You buy the phone. You sign up for the plan. Then you start paying on the plan monthly.
some ask for a deposit because of your credit history...its kind of safe keeping for them
Not if you have good credit.
