It's probably not right to associate this problem with my antidepressants as I've had it for around 4 years whereas I've been on antidepressants for only 3. I'v e had major depressive disorder for around 5 years though.
But right now (past 10 months or so) my concentration is at its absolute worst and I don't know what to do. I've had countless mental breakdowns because my concentration is so godawful it's debilitating, I can't bring myself to do ANYTHING
If there's so much as another sound in the room I can't do what I'm meant to do. If I see trees moving with the wind I lose focus. If I'm aware of the blowing noise the AC makes I can't focus. It gets me really panicky and sometimes I can't sit down and get really hyper and walk around in circles
Ive lost university placements because of its impact on my grades when none of my classes are actually hard, I just can't do the work because of my concentration. I had a 2000 word essay due 5pm today which I didn't submit because in 5 hours I only wrote 3 short paragraphs. I feel like I can't do anything and I'm flunking a lot of my tests because I simply can't get enough of it done in time
What's going on here? Thanks

That might be a side effect for some people. You could ask your doctor to try something else. However, lack of concentration can also be a symptom of depression. One of the truly frustrating things about mental illness is that sometimes it's almost impossible to know whether a certain feeling part of the illness or a side effect of the medication, or both. I have had depression for many years and poor concentration that seems to be related to the depression. I have taken Paxil for a long time and I don't see any evidence that it makes my concentration worse, but I do see an improvement in my depression. I took Seroquel for a while and it made me feel like a zombie. I took Cymbalta and it made me act goofy, silly, kind of like I was either manic or smoking pot.
maybe you just need to try a different medication. I've been on antidepressants for 20 yrs and have no problems with concentration (Paxil/Paroxetine)
Yes....they can do....they slow your brain down which could cause lack of concentration. Mo

yep. that is the exact purpose of anti depression, to make your mind numb and some of it can even make you sleepy, so when you're numb and sleepy you're less likely to think or recall anything that would get you into depressed.
not only that, your concentration and focus will also worsen.
