Do European video games work on american consoles?
I have an american PlayStation 2, and I was planning to buy a game called "Canis Canem Edit" online, but I heard that the game is European and as I am here on Europe for a trip, why not?
For the ps2, its a no. Ps2 games are region locked.
If it was for the ps3, PSP, or vita, then you have no problem.
The point of region locking is to keep games in a certain area, thus controlling the cost. It's cheaper to buy games in the us than to buy games in Europe. If every European buys a North American game, game stores in the uk would be out of business.
It also has something to do with the censor laws. The us is pretty liberal when it comes to violence but really struck when it comes to nudity. The opposite is true in other countries. By region locking, developers can keep violent games out of Australia.

Canis Canem Edit is the european name of Bully. PS2 is region-locked anyway, so it won't work.
