I heard from a gunner that during the interview process, they screen hideous applicants. No matter how stellar your GPA or MCAT scores are, research and extracurriculars, they will reject you simply because people are not comfortable with unattractive doctors. Is this true? Because I am a very hideous and unattractive person, and no this isn't low self esteem or an exaggeration. I'm just a realist, which is what motivates me to work harder. My GPA (3.7 on an OMSAS weighted scale in a difficult major: mathematical physics) and MCAT (34R) are considered competitive. I also have designed many medical instruments as well during my co-op terms, and have done plenty of research and volunteering. Is it possible to be screened out during the interviews, simply because I may not be as attractive as the other applicants? Thanks in advance.

They mean hideous as in seemingly unappealing, lacking personality, and lacking an ability to relate to others and be generally personable. In the medical field, you will be expected to work with all sorts of patients from different backgrounds, with a variety of mental disorders, perhaps, and also children, including those with temperamental problems and just plain fear of doctors. So of course you have to have great interpersonal skills, and admissions committees look for that.
However, I highly doubt that your application will be rejected just because you don't look like a good date. As long as you are well-groomed and hygienic, well-spoken, and personable (as anyone with common sense would be, as if going on a job interview), then there isn't anything to worry about, especially considering you have remarkable academic and extracurricular credentials.
Gunners always lose in the end though, and their main purpose is to discourage promising people like yourself from being their competitor. Never trust a gunner, ever. They're out for themselves and will deceive everyone else to try to get themselves to the top.
Not true, thank goodness. No movie stars in my school.
I suspect your self-image is not shared by others. If you can work with people volunteering, you can work with people as a physician.
i wasn't aware that medical school applicants had to provide a picture of themselves to be admitted to the program. i doubt you will be screened out based on appearance
if that were the case doctors would all be beautiful. in fact, i think its opposite. they screen out attractive applicants because all i have seen was hags and geezers. maybe i should apply...
That isn't true at all.
