microdermal piercings are single point piercings. the needle does not go completely through your skin. pretty much, they poke you, and then put the jewelry in.

It can be done anywhere on your body. Because of the jewelry used, this kind of piercing is permanent unless you get it surgically removed.

Pain has to do with your tolerance level. i don't have any microdermals myself but the friends that I have who have gotten them said that it hurt way less than any other piercing that they've gotten.
