Automatic. It's just easier to drive. Years ago, manual transmissions got significantly better gas mileage, but in recent years, automatic trannies have been improved. I also have a permanently damaged shoulder, which makes manual shifting difficult and painful. Used to love to drive my little old Honda with it's stick shift, but that critter is long gone! Now I drive an Express 3500 with the big v-8 and four speed auto tranny...and I get mileage almost as good as my wife does with her Astro and it's 6-cylinder mill.
stick shift for sure. it gives you much more control over the vehicle and forces you to pay more attention to oncoming obstacles because you have to compensate for your engine's reaction to them. i've always found driving a stick keeps me more focused on the driving and it's way too easy to get bored/distracted while driving an automatic because it's just too easy. also the stick gives you the option of downshifting and you can stop soooo much faster than any auto. once you learn to drive a stick well you will always prefer it to an auto because of the added control it gives you. if you wanna save gas, upshift and drop rpms. if you wanna go faster to pass or whatever you simply clutch and drop a gear and gain that acceleration you want or need. also with a stick shift you usually only have to replace a clutch kit which is around 300 bucks if you do it yourself. where as with an automatic you need a rebuild or a new tranny which could run you around 2,000 for a basic tranny or for the newer 6 and 7 speed auto trannies you'd be lookin at around 4,000 dollars.
I live in city I prefer automatic , before I was living in country m, I liked have "speed" I have had car with manual transmission . This is very personal choice .Traffic on street , move car 10 -20 feet and stop can make you really pissed with manual transmission, clutch , break pedal , over and over . Automatic for cities , manual if you really want better acceleration , and be cool .
It's personal preference. Neither one provides a significant fuel savings over the other now that automatics have an overdrive gear. Manuals have some use in off road driving but if you're not doing that then it doesn't make a difference
stick shift is better on gas easier on brakes and can be push started if something should go wrong with the starter or battery you can get through snow and get unstuck easier overall it gives you more control even if you drive an automatic you should at least learn how to drive a stick besides most car thieves don't know how !

I saw a Manuel Tranny once while driving through West Hollywood.
Manuel? As in Spanish Transmission? LOL
Manual of course. I am putting a Engine/Manual tranny from a 2003 Ford ranger into my 1999 Ford Explorer. 4.0 SOHC with a manual!

Manuel Tranny, of course!
Grab the stick and feel the power.....
Motorcycles, cars and small trucks - stick
Large trucks - automatic - have other things to be careful of driving and double clutch can be a pain and distracting.
