You win pride, when you've been a loser yet not AllOWED yourself to be defeated. As long as you maintain self-respect, the defeat didn't defeat you. You just move on. Nothing is really lost unless you let it defeat you. Much can actually be gained, including letting go of the fear of losing.
I have a dear friend that tells me that nothing can ever be improved or won or made better, unless you take a chance of losing. And if you lose the first time, you keep trying. Without the chance of losing, there's definitely no chance of winning.
If you get defeated by the 'defeat', then you 'lose' your pride. If you refuse to get defeated by an incident of 'defeat', you 'win' your pride to move over to the next time.
