I'm going to the Isle of Man tomorrow. It's a crown dependency of the United Kingdom (queen Elizabeth II is head of state ) and its scenic with seascape, and castles thousands of years old. It's in between the islands of Ireland & Britain
. One problem: should I exchange my currency when I get my flight tonight at the airport, because I doubt they will have Manx pounds? Can I exchange for England £ and use it on the Isle of Man? Or should I wait to exchange currency at a bank when I arrive in Douglas . Thanks ! I'm looking forward to this trip! I leave soon.. I've always wanted to visit the Isle of Man.
Any Manx people on here?

Scotland and Northern Ireland use the same currency as the rest of the UK - the British Pound Sterling.
If you mean to Scottish and Northern Irish bankotes circulate in the rest of the UK, then the answer is yes. I've never seen a Manx note though.
You can use English currency on the Isle of Man. It will help to have at least some cash when you arrive. The Manx know they can freely convert between it and their own currency.
The problem you always get is trying to spend banknotes from other parts of the UK in England. There shouldn't be a problem as banks will accept them, and there's even a place to list Scottish and Irish notes on bank paying-in slips, but some shops still haven't worked that out yet for some reason.
Apparently UK currency is accepted on par on the Isle of Man, despite the Isle of Man having their own currency. The best place to exchange money is the Post Office. There is no Manx passport (they use British passports).
I've always wanted to visit the Isle of Man--hope you have a wonderful visit! :-)
Spudbuck is wrong--Canadian and Australian (and other nations) money also has pictures of Queen Elizabeth II on it, and won't be accepted within the UK! :-D
Thanks we do know where it is......Sure do not mean to be condescending...The islands (IOM & Channel Isles ) are culturally BRITISH and the people FULL BRITISH citizens even though NOT part of the UK nor EU..... IOM is in fact covered by the SAME BBC Regional TV news as The NW of England, where I live...
Change any IOM notes once on mainland UK when return...NOT as common in England & Wales, as Scottish & NI ones, which do circulate, but tend to be banked by retailers rather than given out in change........Can use Bank of England on the island....& other Sterling ......
The only legal tender in England is english money. However Manx, Scottish & N.Irish money is what is referred to as accepted tender in the UK.
Rule of Thumb : if it has Queen Elizabeth's face on it, you can spend it in the UK.
@ epona :Point taken and would be correct IF I had not already quantified that my answer referred to British monetary denominations.
The English are stuck up when it comes to things like this. You can use English money in Scotland for example without fuss however using Scottish money in England tends to become an issue.
But hey, rule britania and all that jazz, eh?
Yes.
