I had a lava lamp and it would take an hour or two so for the wax to start moving and like three for it to moving freely like what a lava lamp should do. So if its been a few hours and it's still not working then somethings wrong with it.
just leave it. they take nearly 2-3 hours to warm up also to save power buy a timer so turn on 3 hours before you come home from what ever so it is always on and warm when you come home. also set the timer to turn off when you leave home, I use the same thing
