Yes, the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 is supported by the Acer f671cr motherboard, from what I could find about the motherboard, it only supports Intel Core 2 Duo CPU's. I have to agree though it is a older CPU and motherboard.
If you are on a tight budget, you might look at some of the Intel 2nd and 3rd gen Core i3' CPU's, and a B75 motherboard.

Even the lowest i3 and the cheapest B75 motherboard will out perform the E8500 by a pretty good margin.

Don't waste your time and money on a duo e8500.
Unless your going to run pfsense on it and use it as a firewall.
Too old now.
