Does this encounter match any particular paranormal phenomenon or mythical creature?
I was walking home one evening when I heard hasty steps advancing towards me. When I turned around I saw myself standing there but unlike me this double looked as if it was decomposing under the ocean for a month and had red irises. It stood there for about 10th seconds before it begun to take a slow step at me. At this point I closed my eyes. A few seconds later I opened them then it was gone.

It sounds like a doppelganger - there's a theory that if you see a doppelganger of yourself you don't have too long to live. Abraham Lincoln had seen his doppelganger in the mirror not long before he was killed. I'm not too sure about this theory though, I once saw my mother's doppelganger in the mirror years ago, and she's still alive. I've posted the link below for you.
