Republican President Abraham Lincoln wrote the document. The Republican Party was created specifically as an alternative to the racism of the Democratic Party.

The Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves only in Confederate territory. It was an attempt to encourage slaves to escape to the North. Slavery was not made illegal in all the US until the 13th amendment to the Constitution was enacted in 1865. You need to read up on "The Southern Strategy" adopted in the 1960's which brought Southern conservatives into the GOP.
At the time it was Lincoln. Political parties change directions and strategies for getting a majority of votes. Since LBJ the parties have flipped on civil rights and minority rights.
The political parties of those days bear no resemblance to those of today. Back then the Republicans ended slavery; today the Refucklicans want to re-establish slavery.
