So here's the plot (that I gather):

There's a coven that made deals with the devil (toby?) for material things. It's been going on forever. Turns out the grandma is in the coven, hence all the old women in the end of PA3.

Grandma is performing a ritual with the coven so that a son is born in the next generation, since her daughter didn't and won't. Maybe she picks Kristi because Toby already had. Not sure why Kristi rather than Katie other than the fact that Katie was older and less imaginative in 1988 and thus couldnt/wouldn't see Toby?

It is implied the ritual is thus performed.

The girls don't remember anything growing up bc of what Dennis said. That the person won't remember if a ritual was performed on them, etc.

Fast forward 20 years. All this time, Toby's been with Grandma. Grandma dies. Katie gets all the stuff from Grandma. Drops it off at Kristi's. This is how Toby jumped from Grandma to Kristi.

PA2 happens with Kristi being haunted. The husband performs the ritual that burns Katie's photo and transfers Toby to Katie, leaving Kristi alone.

PA1 happens at the same time roughly. Katie, now possessed, goes to her sister's house to claim the first born son as promised by the ancient ritual done by whomever in their family line.

Unanswered questions:

I don't remember Katie/Kristi growing up w/o their mother, but maybe they did.

They do know a little about a monster and know that it feeds on fear, yet PA3 tells us they shouldn't remember. Does this mean Toby paid them visits throughout their childhood/teens/young adult and they just didn't know?

Why Kristi and not Katie? And he seemed to not like her in PA3. Why would he possess her despite the ritual in PA2?

I can believe that Katie mistakenly believes the charred photo is from her childhood rather than the demon taking it when he was transferred to Katie. But they still had a house burn down. Who with? And was that person trying to destroy the demon thinking the demon was attached to the house? I spy PA4 explaining these loose ends...

I loved the movie and was totally scared. Love it!

Paranormal Activity 3 Ending

I have plenty of thoughts on the movie. I was stoked to go watch it, yes I was upset all the previews weren't in the actual movie, but all in all it was decent. There are either a few mess ups or there are things that will be described in PA4. One thing is, in the first Paranormal Activity, Micah makes a reference about Katie's mom in the movie. It's when the ghost/demonologist is there and Micah says jokingly, "Well we shouldn't have you mom over anymore then." or something along those lines. Well, either they writers messed that up and forgot that was said, or they are brainwashed and think some other women is there mother (which is doubtful considering theres tapes and photos that are available for Katie and Kristi to see), or the mother isn't necessarily dead yet. I'm hoping that it's something that will be explained and that these movies will end up all coming together with no loopholes. I agree though, I was also confused but I think the writers and everybody wanted it to be that way. I think we were all supposed to leave with questions, because even if someone hated this 3rd installment they will still go see PA4 just in hopes of getting their questions answered.

Katie was possessed after being bitten. Kristi was the one afraid near the stuffed dear, yet she could have been easily changed to "happy state" due to our evidence that she can be "possessed" and stare at people at night for a long time (the grandmother most likely has control over this). And, they go upstairs with Toby to get ready for the "wedding". Upstairs was the jewelry closet, and that is why the grandmother was working with them earlier in the movie.

The irony behind Paranormal Activity 2 is that Katie warns Kristi that the demon thrives on fear, and you need to let it go or you will end up just like mom. This made us believe the mom is EVIL or thrived on the demon, but rather the mom had no earthly idea any of this was going on. AND, she is the victim in the story of it all, along with Dennis.

Katie is possessed, so she will never remember these incidents.

Kristi most likely will be brainwashed, like the cult does. OR, she will always know, but never comes to terms of what she has done.

For the ending: Its perfect, and I cannot wait for a fourth installment, if it comes to be.

Here's what I think: 1. It was clear that Katie was possessed, and I think it's safe to assume that Kristi was too...possibly as a result of something the coven did to them in the dining room with the symbols on the wall. 2. The coven(or the demon) likely did something to cause the girls to not remember, or barely remember their parents. Otherwise, they would begin to wonder how their parents died...leading them to the truth of what is going on. 3. I'm sure we will see more about the house when the movie comes out on Blu-Ray/DVD, and we're able to see the extended version. I think it was probably cut from the theatrical version because it would have taken away from the impact of the ending, as it is. 4. I don't remember exactly what was said, but I remember the little girl from PA2 talking about something she found on the Internet. She said that there were cases where witches, or people in general, made deals with demons for wealth, power, etc.. As part of the deal struck, the demon required the first born, male, child born after the deal was made. Does anyone else remember this, or am I rewriting the story?

I didn't get the ending of that movie. I know the grandmother made a deal with the devil and all but why was kristie all scared and crying and next thing she was all happy and says come on Toby when he just killed her mum and stepdad ( or whoever he was)? And the girls just go off with that...

First, I'll address the comment that demons cannot harm others while they possess humans made above, they actually CAN. In fact, Anneliese Michel, a woman who was possessed by several demons at once, was said to have beaten members of her family at her house. And if old stories are anything to go by, Asmodeus(a demon) was said to have killed several husbands of Sara until the Angel Raphael stepped in.

As for the question itself:

Katie, the girl crying, was probably possessed by toby. As a result, she probably didn't remember anything. Remember in the second movie when she's older she said that she didn't remember much. As for the younger girl, she was probably more worried about Toby, since not being obedient to him seems to have huge consequences as she witnessed. As for the old people, they are part of the clan that the grandmother is involved in that make deals with demon(s) hence the ritual and fire outside.

It was Katie that was the one crying at the stairs but at that moment she was possessed by Toby I believe. So she had no control over what was going on. So she was going to her grandmother in order to be comforted but then Kristie was the one who was happy to have Toby come to them because he was her "imaginary friend" and if she disobeyed him then remember what she said in the beginning of the movie, "Bad things would happen." All of the old people at the house I believe are those that represent the ones from that really old picture where they were wearing necklaces of that triangle and circle symbol. So all of those people I believe are about to perform a ritual in which Toby can take the first born son or something like that. However, the fire that was outside is most likely where the ritual is going to be performed. The girls went with the grandmother because she said, "Let's get ready" so we will probably have to wait for another movie in order to get all of the questions answered.

i beleive that you understand the gist of it so far but its really a cliffhanger in the sense that how did they get out of this alive? when did their house burn down and what is going to happen to them after..I believe the filmmaker ended the movie like he did so it could all be answered in the next one..just my guess I'm not really sure. Yes the grandma made a deal with the devil to give away the first born son and yes i believe that they knew kristi was going to be the one with the child..even though during the movie the grandma suggested to the mom that she wanted a "big family and maybe a son' and when the mom said she didn't anymore, the grandma made kristi the new person to give the baby..hence causing toby to only be seen by kristi

ok if you remember in the second movie when Kristies step daughter mentions how you can make a deal with a demon for wealth, well to me it seemed like the family was filthy rich so apparently they made a deal with a demon. It also says you have to sacrafice your first born son in the family. Well if you realize there was never a son born in the family until the second film (Kristies son). So that's why the demon took him in the second one. As for the ending of the thrid, apparently the grandmother made a deal with a demon, thats why at the very beginning of the third film she mentions to her daugter (julie) that she should have a bigger family and try and have a son even though Julie didnt want to. She wanted her to have a son so they could sacrafice him. All the old people were probably part of a clan just like in the picture, a clan that the grandmother was also in. Anyways as for the girls just going off and running off with their grandma, if you remember how thier step dad or moms boyfriend Dennis mentions to his friend that once possed they wont remember doing anything that happend while possessed, thats why the girls acted like nothing happend. thats what i was thinking of
