First of all, let me commend you for being honest as an Englishman about your opinion on English accents. You're certainly entitled to it regardless of whether you are right or wrong (and I'm not trying to flatter you there!).
I'm an American and I remember a guy in college (also an American) once saying about British accents: "They're amazing. You can be stupid as hell and still sound intelligent if you speak with one."
Those are almost my sentiments too. British (or English) accents tend to make a person sound a little more classy and dignified than any American accents do.
Of course, American English (and Canadian too ) was shaped largely by the settling of the North American frontier, or "the frontier experience" if you like. So, some of the values that the English considered important to speaking good English were not necessarily shared by Americans or Canadians... things like good diction, elocution, a large vocabulary etc.
In the North American frontier environment, being able to hunt, fight or work well with your hands were often valued more than things like proper etiquette, literacy or intelligence. It could be now that the frontier days are largely over with, Americans are beginning to appreciate more some of the things about language and literature that the British have always appreciated.
I'm an Australian girl with an English mum, so I have a pretty interesting accent. Sort of ‘refined Australian’. What I've noticed is most people say my accent gives me more class, even can make more sound more intelligent. Of course, there are many different British accents, so it really does depend where you're from; as is the same with all countries.
Usually though, most accent's will sound pleasing to others because it's exotic and fun to hear others pronounce words differently.
I think most refined and 'upper-class', if you'll pardon the crude expression, sound more pleasing to others instead of the 'westie' accents, because the distinguished accents give off a feeling of class, style, and intelligence; which are qualities that can often make good conversation.
Of course, it does depend of the individual. Like for example, I find most American accents to be quite annoying and hard to listen to because they just sound so corny and fake (I'm not hating on Americans, just the accents in some part), but my friend at school is crazy about American accents. It's up to you :)
I don't know, it just something about it that is attractive. It reminds me of james bond and other dashing english men. The english accents sound more sophisticated, rather than my west virginian accent.
My sister is obssesed with British accents! She doesn't likes the Amerian accent. I guess that people like British accents is because they think it's more natural and it's the original one. I go to the British Council in Bucharest, Romania and my teacher is from Birmigham. So, he's a brummy.
Because there's just something about it...It just sounds so gorgeous coming from a guy...English boys are already pretty charming...but when you add the accent...It drives girls wild...
I have an english accent and theres so many sterotypes of it like
"oh jefrey....paass me the cup of tea would you....well i do say, one is having a fine glorious sum-aer!!!" (summer- but they make then end sound all high pitched lol)
lmao i mean when do we talk like that???
i swear i dont think even the queen speaks that posh to be fair
All i hear where im from is "yo bro....lets go Macy-Dzz enit tho....oh brap brap brap....geezer"
I think its just sounds posh to Americans because they sound more casual and Austrailian sounds more like relaxed in a way
I'm American, born and raised. My soon to be stepfather is British and so are his 2 kids. It sounds... well, I don't think cute is the right word... Friendly might be it.

But yeah, hope that answers it
I think that it just has to do with something sounding different. It is also an accent that is a lot of the times associated with sexiness.
You may not think you sound good, but that's because you listen to yourself all the time :).

I wonder what it's gonna do to my accent...
We don't get to hear it everyday, and the media gives us the impression that it is only used for sophistication i.e. Butlers, Queen Elizabeth.
We also find other accents impressive too
