It's common knowledge that all Males in all species compete for the best female, normally by fighting or the like. But how do they know which is the Alpha female? I know tht in wolf packs there is only one mating pair, the Alpha male and the Alpha female. But females are a bit more precious (and I mean that they give birth and that one male can fertilize a 100 females and then have a ton of babies later, but females can't) so from an evolutionary standpoint it wouldn't work for the females to fight each other for the Alpha position. So I guess my question is, how does the female heirachy work? (specific to animals please, I would prefer not to have to comb through answers about how no one understands women)

The female wolf that is the best efficient hunter, is the one that's chosen.
Alpha females don't compete. An alpha is, by definition, a person who attracts a very large percentage of people for a long term relationship: in developed countries, people who possess the most human quaities and are devoid of character flaws are deemed the most attractive: calm, gentle, kind, generous, altruisti, fair, incorruptible, honourable people, regardless of their physical appearance. Alphas, as represented by Thor, are too nice, kind, generous and respectful to allow their animal instincts to rule them, THEY rule their animal instincts and they refuse to compete: they respect others and demand full consent in any relationship.
Hydrobadchik: Alpha people DON'T NEED TO BE CONNIVING, slanderous, gossipers to attract partners. They just need to be themselves. People who need to entrap a partner are not alphas.
Cano: Perhaps in the other side of the tracks, the most predatorial ones will be considered the "best", but that is not the case of mainstream advanced societies.
By conniving, intimidating and using personal influence. Some will shun their competitors, others will try to befriend them so they can influence the competitor's bevhavior and how she is seen by others.
social ostracism, gossip, conniving.
