i had a baby about 4 weeks ago and i have started having back pain and i know its from the epidural its like the tiny spot where the needle was inserted in my spine that hurts constantly then randomly there is pain that shoots up and down my spine from my neck to my tail bone and sometimes down my right leg... anyone else experience this is there anyway to make it stop or is it forever?
Update:well i know this would be my fault but i jerked while he was putting in my epidural and he had to do it again... does anyone think it sounds like nerve pain could i have caused some damage by jerking

It shouldn't be permanent. I found I had back spasms after both of my children, radiating from the epidural, but according to the doctors made worse by the fact that your back spasms during labor. The best thing for me that I've found is to put my hand against the spot where the epidural was (a little warmth) when I feel it starting and it stops. For the most part it heals and then stops. I try to make sure I sit on a boppy so I'm not annoying my tailbone (I think they hit my tailbone when moving me for the c-section) but other than that it just heals.
I have the exact same problem, except my son was born 14 months ago. Some women end up having long-term pain issues when they get an epidural. I didn't move at all when the epidural was put in, and I still get pains, so your jerk might not have had anything to do with it. This is understandable because a sharp object is being put into your spine. I don't have sharp pains, but it is a constant dull ache that starts right where they put in the epidural and goes down from there. My doctor sent me to physical therapy for it, but it didn't really help. I just take a Tylenol if the pain gets too bad.
However, I am now pregnant again and the added weight is aggravating the situation big time. I am limited to Tylenol, but it's something I just have to live with until the birth.
You should call your doctor and tell him what is going on with the epidural site. There may be something that they can do to help you. It is possible to experience pain in the area where the epidural was administered. Remember, they stuck a needle in your spine. I had a small amount of pain where my epidural was inserted and after doing my own research discovered that this can last for up to six months. Perhaps the doctor who gave you the epidural nicked your spine or caused nerve damage. If it is nerve damage it will take awhile to subside because nerve damage takes a long time to heal.
Good Luck!
Don't take this the wrong way but how are you sure it's from the epidural??? I also had an epidural and after my son was born I had back pain till just recently... It was my entire back, neck and sometimes my legs... But I was breastfeeding and had lots of milk... If you breastfeed the weight of the milk and extra tissue can add 10 pounds to the upper front of your body causing stress on your neck, back and as a result your legs can hurt too from carrying the weight... My pain was achy most the time and radiated. But sometimes it did feel like a bruise in the middle and could be sharp... I just waited out my pain and it went away after my milk slowed down at about 6 months...
But you could try heating pads or bath.. Just trying to relax or light massage..
Having a baby is a bug shock to your body.. You will probably notice some new aches and pains arise and dissappear in the next 2 years... They say your body takes 2 years to return to normal after birth...
My last baby was born 5 months ago and ever since the birth of my first children (2 1/2 years ago) I have had back pain. Mine however isn't quite like yours. I have pain where the needle was inserted only if that spot is touched. Even the lightest touch hurts it. My husband can't even rub his hand on my back there. I would try a chiropractor maybe that will help.
I however have tried all kinds ofthings and nothing seems to help. I think I'm just going to have to live with it forever!
i had my daughter 6 months ago, and I can still feel it. They had a hard time inserting my epidural though. They tried to thread it 5 times before they just kind of left it where it was. Then they tried again about 4 hours later and got it on the first time! Mine almost feels like it's bruised, like someone punched me right in the middle of my back. I never sough any kind of treatment (chiropractor, etc.) for my pain, but I'm sure it would help. It won't last forever! Mine is just now starting to feel better, or at least it doesn't bother me as much as it used to. Good luck:)
After i had my first baby i had not problem with the epidural, when i had my second baby my back ached int hat spot off and on, now 7 months later only time it hurts is when i get a brain freeze lol It should go away with time give the nerves time to heal
after i had my son i went back to work as a waitress i was having HORRIBLE lower back pain that made mem have to sit down every hour to relieve the pain. i also noticed when i bent backwards(as if trying to crack my back) it was horrible pain. after about 9 months of pain i decided to look up where the epidural is actually placed and it just so happened to be in the exact same spot as where my pain way. it went away after a bit over a year. i had a second child back in january and havent had any pain from that epirdural

It goes away around the same time as your 6 week appointment. You'll be sore for a while if there's pressure applied to that part of your back.
