I wouldn't deliver with out it; I seriously don't see any reason in putting your body through so much pain as child birth when there is something that is shown to not affect the baby's well being and can actually make labor and deliver enjoyable. Good luck and congrats!!
LOVED THE EPIDURAL! I have to say I was more afraid of getting an epidural then I was of the actual labor and delivery experience. Im not gonna lie, it doesnt feel good at all to get one....and its not that it even HURTS...its just that its a really weird feeling. Like hitting your funny bone over and over....NOT SO FUNNY! anyways.....totally worth it! I was able to feel enough to push and yet I didnt feel any pain. I even had to have an episiotomy and didnt feel a thing! I am 33 weeks pregnant with my second and am hoping my epidural experience is the same this time around.
I had an epidural but not for pregnancy...it was for a MS test and it was fine. I couldn't feel anything but I will tell you that I got a horrible headache because my spinal fluid leaked and they had to go back on the same hole and area and do a "blood patch" so the hole would clog. That was the most awful experience. The headache was beyond anything I could ever imagine and I have broken a lot of bones. However, I was told spinal leakage is prevalent in women who have the MS test. Don't know about pregnancy. Hope this helps! Good luck!
I found getting the epidural to be painful but once the needle was in it was great. Small price to pay for the relief it gave. I also had some lower back pain for a few years after. Nothing real bad and eventually it stopped. I would and will get it again.
I was in so much pain when the contractions hit, I welcomed that epidural! To tell you the truth, I honestly do not remember getting the shot at all. I remember signing the consent form, and thats it. So I guess it was not so bad. I am pregnant with # 2 now, and I absolutely will do it again!
It is SOOOOOO great. I thought I was going to die, well, not die but I could't take the pain anymore. The only thing that I found unconfortable about the epidural was sitting up while it was put in my back. You are in so much pain by the time you get one you don't even feel the needle. I didn't at least. I would HIGHLY recommend them.
i had 3 , for my last son i didn't get it so i could see just what the fuss was about and boy did a see!!!
with the first i was so scared i didn't know what to expect
i was hugging the nurse so tight that when it was finished her name tag was imprinted in my forehead everyone had a laugh at that.but its not as bad as you'd think you get a little pinch from the local anesthetic then once your numb they start with the epidural
its scary because they tell you don't move because you can injure your spinal cord ,basically it doesn't hurt me. its more nerve recking then anything.but after your home your back may get tight and cramp up until 6 months to a year after your baby.that's the only down fall and that its harder for you to feel if your pushing right ,..because you cant feel what your doing.to me its better to go all natural,.....if you can tolerate pain.
if i have another baby ill go natural again. hope this helps
It was much less scary to have done then I thought it would be. There was a small sting when it went in and that was it. I wouldn't change a thing. It made my labor much smoother and I dilated from 2-10 in about 2 hours after getting it since I could actually relax.
The worst part was when they took it out there is a lot of tape on your back and that hurt coming off.
I've had 2. the first one went well. Actually they both were painless for me. I had no effects from the first one but the second one left me severely bruised and I now have alot of lower back problems. The second was done in an emergency situation.
be very careful not to let the anesthesiologist leave until you know it has taken effect on both sides of your body. during my wife's first birth, the first epi took effect only on her right side (turns out she had mild scoliosis that kinked the tube). she went ahead and pushed, but when the deliver moved to an emergency "C" i had to tell her OB that she needed another epi or general before the procedure.
