I am learning guitar. Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing as a standard list of picking patterns that are required learning for playing slide? I mean patterns that can be used in different ways or for different tunes.

Nope - gotta pick the string with the finger that needs to be playing the note (I know that doesn't help)
Also, there are different kinds of slide playing, different tunings and such ...
if you want to learn to use a pick when playing slide, have a listen to more electric stuff, like the Alman Bros, or Muddy Waters. If you want to learn slide wiht finger picking, check out Robert Johnson ot Blind Willie Johnson.
If you want some general tips on finger picking - and how to improve that - try out some classical techniques, and also some banjo techniques.
The ultimate guide to what to do in music is simply this: does it sound the way you want it to (even if other people hate it!)? There are guidelines as to what to do for picking patterns that are very useful, but its usually the people that "break the rules" that really stand out. Imagine Eddie Van Halen not using the finger-tapping technique - he could not have done what he did without it. Learn as many patterns as you can, but then make up your own.
Not really a standard pattern, but thumb picks the three top (low ) strings and index middle and ring fingers pluck the trebles.
as with anything musical nothing is SET IN STONE per say. Just mix it up and you'll find things that you can work with.....it makes it a lot easier to have your guitar in an open tuning.
There is one pattern. Play it...if it sounds horrible, don't play it again. If it sounds good...try to make it sound even better.
You feel what you play...and you hear the result. How much more evidence do you want???
Yes. Each finger should be used for it's nearest string as it were.
Practice makes it more natural.
