I'm 36 years old and 29 weeks pregnant, I guess I fall into the "advanced maternal age" category. I have already had 3 ultrasounds, the last one being a level 2, and all of my blood tests and the test where they measure the space at the base of the skull (forgot the name of it) and all tests came back completely normal and no complications so far with the pregnancy. I thought I would be done having ultrasounds, but when I went to the OB yesterday, they said I have to have 3 more!! I asked why and they said that it was just routine for them to do that for anyone over 35. Why do they do so many and what are they looking for? I feel like it almost makes me more worried that they are doing so many...not sure why it makes me more worried, but it does. Maybe because it reminds me that more can go wrong when you're older. Any reassuring advice from other "advanced maternal age" moms? Thanks!

Anybody over 35 falls into that advanced maternal age category. They will be monitoring for things like the amniotic fluid levels, position of the baby, different things like that. It's a good thing. Better safe than sorry.
Good luck with your wee one.
I'm not a "advanced maternal age" mom, but I am a high risk pregnancy, they are doing a million ultrasounds on me too. Although everything is normal!
I say if everything is normal, especially at 29 weeks, don't sweat it! Enjoy it! I love getting the ultrasounds. Seeing our baby always makes me happy and it makes me feel as though my fiance is "bonding" more with the baby!
Well, I believe the 2007 facts have been simply over one in 2 hundred pregnancies results in a stillbirth ... For ladies beneath 20, the price is 6.6 consistent with one thousand and for the ones over forty it's 7.two consistent with one thousand births. So you'll see that the threat is somewhat bigger considering that of your age; however you're just one yr older than the magic quantity forty. So please take a look at to not fear. I understand you ought to be very demanding approximately having an induction, and you've got a typical, healthful desire to have a beginning that's now not prompted. I assume you have already performed the study and understand that due dates are in no way rather spot on. They're expected occasions, and a primary time mom most commonly does is going over her time slightly. Having mentioned that, your healthcare professional used to be involved and has you and your youngster's pleasant pursuits in brain. She believes this to be the most secure manner for you each. But you cannot be compelled to have an induction, and it is major that you just believe you're being listened to. Just supply her a risk to give an explanation for matters higher to you and to relieve your fears earlier than you are making up your brain. Chances are that an induction will cross quality, and that you are going to quickly have your baby to your fingers. Just inform the healthcare professional your concerns and ask the entire questions you must. And come again and let us know what you name youngster. But anything you do, do not title him/her Yahoo :)
i'm only 24 but if your pregnancy is going well just look at it as 3 more times to see your little one before they are born. when i was pregnant i went to the er at 5 1/2 weeks for cramping and had one but wasnt allowed to see anything. at the ob a few days later i saw my daughter's heartbeat. then at 19 weeks they did the usual measuring and had to do a follow up at 21 weeks coz she kept moving. at neither of those i could find out the sex. then i moved and my new ob said they wouldnt be doing another one coz everything was fine. i was so upset. i paid $200 for a 3d one and luckily found out it was a girl. lol. don't be worried. they just dont want to be sued for anything. lol. just enjoy watching your little one and be thankful you fall just over the mark.
good luck and congrats
I'm 37. Had my first US yesterday, the 12 weeks one. Then I will have another one and that's it unless there are complications.
It sounds like your OB is getting a commission from his mate at the Ultrasound place! I think 6 is excessive when everything is otherwise normal.
They do ultrasounds on older mothers due to the risk of miscarriage. After 35, your body can start to go into menopause. Contrary to popular belief, pregnancy doesn't make your hormones go crazy; it makes them stop. So, if your body stops producing hormones, it could send your body into early menopause. This is one of the main reasons that older women have a much higher rate of miscarriage than younger women.
You really aren't old..my OB starts doing advanced testing and monitoring pregnancy more at age 39.
Anyone who is 35 and over, is tested more as a precaution due to the chance of birth defects and Downs Syndrome.
