What kind of extracurricular do colleges look for?
So far, I only have basketball. I was thinking about going out for track this year in addition to basketball, volunteering at a hospital on Saturdays, and joining a marine ecology club. Oh, and I'm trying to get my grades high enough to be accepted into NHS.
What else do colleges look for?

Extracurricular activities are secondary to your GPA and SAT score. Participating in only basketball and having a high GPA and will look far better than having a low GPA and five or six clubs.
When I was in high school, you only needed a 3.0 to be accepted to NHS. The requisite GPA may be higher today but, regardless, it is more important that you work on your GPA than increase your quantity of ECs.
You're good with what you have and what you plan to do. They mostly look to see that you have extracurriculars - it matters less what, exactly, they are and more how involved with them you are. Anything you've been doing over a span of years or can demonstrate heavy involvement in, even if it's just one or two things, looks better than a laundry list of clubs and organizations you're a member of in the sense that you paid dues and own a corresponding T-shirt.
