If it is the eyelid that is twitching, that's a spasm of the muscles of the eyelid (lid myokymia), and pretty common; I don't know of an association with any medical problems. It's may be associated with stress and/or lack of sleep. If the eyeball itself is twitching, that could be nystagmus, and you should see an ophthalmologist,
Twitching of the eye's is usually attributed to stress and over exertion - a trapped nerve can cause the eye to spasm intermittently, but if it carries on any longer than a few hours it's pobably best to get a check up ith the doctor, as it may be a symptom of something else

This happened to me recently when I was under a lot of stress. It went on for a few weeks and I was getting ready to go to the doctor when it finally stopped. This was below my right eye, where eyes tend to bag when you're tired. It actually got puffy from all the twitching but it went away. I've had the lash line of my upper lid twitch before also but not for near as long
