When trying to turn on the vehicle it did not start and none of the lights would turn on. I used jumper cables to get it to start but the fuel gauge read empty even though I knew it was not. Regardless, I put in gas and it was less than $15 so I know it wasn't empty. After dispensing the gas the fuel gauge read Full. Also, before I put in more gas, when I stepped on the gas pedal all the way down (while in park) it would not accelerate. It would maintain only a constant sound. After dispensing the additional gas though, the accelerator was fine. Could this be an issue with the battery (which is only 1 year old) or the gas tank? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's more probably the fuel pump. It's getting weaker, and needs the help of the extra fuel to send the gas through the fuel line. Have someone check the pressure on the fuel rail. IIRC, it should be in the neighborhood of 60-70 PSI. I bet it's going to be low.
