i have a 2000 chrysler concorde that i just replaced the alernator,. changed the oil and oil filter and now need to troubleshoot why my check engine light frequently turns on. i have also tightened the belts on my engine.
it sat for eight months but runs fine outside of the engine light. it has also begun to cut off occasionally, and at times the idle noise is louder than usual. in fact up until the oil change, it was ticking {which i know indicates time for an oil change} the ticking has stopped but as i said, the check engine light comes on and it looks complicated to replace the fuel filter.. any suggestions?

Have someone with an OBD-II tester to find out why the check engine light is on. Autozone will check it for free. That should give you an idea of where to start, it may not be your fuel pump or filter.
Unless you know what's wrong, you might replace a lot of parts that don't need replacing and waste a lot of money. Ticking doesn't mean it's time for an oil change. It means lack of oil, lubrication or can even be the sound of a leaking exhaust manifold. Your ticking stopped because you have enough oil now and you didn't have enough before. Get an OBD2 check done to get to the bottom of the mystery of the trouble light. If changing a fuel filter looks hard, you should take the car to a professional and have it fixed right. Tell them all the new parts, so they don't have to wonder about them or try to sell them to you again.
