I am a customer of vzw and my 2 year contract ends in about a month. I am wondering if anyone one could recommend a good cell phone for under $250? Thanks so much!
If you qualify for a New Every 2, all of the phones will be less than $250. That means you can have your pick. I would look at these phones:
LG VX8550:
It's the new version of the Chocolate. LG moved some of the buttons and changed the touch pad on it so it works quite a bit better than the original did. It also looks a lot better. There was at least one shipment of phones with bad springs in the slider, but I haven't seen any other negative reviews about this phone.
LG VX9900 (enV):
These are great phones, but they are a little bulky. They work well. They have great battery life. They qwerty keyboard is nice for text messaging. VCast is awesome on the phone because you can open it up and have stereo speakers (like watching a little TV). It also has a 2 megapixel camera which is what makes it better than the Samsung u740. The biggest complaints I get about the enV are the physical size and the size of the outside screen. The small outside screen makes text (menu, numbers, text messages, etc) hard to read.
LG VX8700:
If you're looking for a more traditional flip style phone, this is the best available at this point. It looks nice, it works really well, the 2 megapixel camera is REALLY crisp. I recommend using the camera next to another phone, and you'll be able to see the difference in screen/camera quality. The only downside to this phone is the outside screen is long and sideways. That means you can't use the camera when the phone is closed.
Samsung a990:
This phone is awesome. It's been out for a little over a year, and it's being discontinued. It's a shame because this is the phone I wanted to get when my NE2 comes up in January. The call quality is really good, but it drops calls in areas with a weak signal. The best part about it is the 3.2 megapixel camera which is what I want it for. The screen swivels and folds back on itself so it looks like an actual digital camera. Go in the store to play with one, and you'll see what I mean.
Well, I've had the Samsung-u740 before and it really stinks, had to get a new one every week during the 30 day trial period, so I wouldn't get this one.

The enV is good.
contract up find a new carrier. VZ is awful and they will force you into another 2 year contract.
