My wife had a green card and social security card issued to her but we had to send the green card back because they put her maiden last name on it. They agreed to replace it but now it has been almost a year. Can my wife get a job without the card or can she show some other kind of other paper work to employers to get a job?

I had a similar problem about 8 years ago. I went down to my closest immigration office(Charlotte, NC) and filled out paperwork claiming that I never received it. I received another one about a month later. I did have to pay at the time about 150-200. What they did was stamp my passport and told me that that was as good as the card itself until the card came.
Now, there is a letter you should have received with the card which should be good indefinitely to prove your status.
as long as you got the alien #s and the letters
from the Immigration, gather all the letters from the Immigration and find the one that says about the replacement..I don't see why can't she get a job.
