I have some bird experience. Have had a Budgie for almost 10 years and used to have a Cockatiel. I'm looking into getting another bird and interested in Conures.
How are they as pets? I was thinking about getting an older one from a local rescue.
How loud are they and can they get along with a Budgie even though they would not be together? She loves to sit on other birds cages and check them out.
Are Conures aggressive?
I have a large flight room full of perches and toys but would have to have to them in it at separate times I'm sure.
I've tried looking this stuff up online but getting a lot of mixed opinions so looking for people who are experienced with these types of birds.

You sound like me for my new bird i want to adopt it from a rescue and i all ready have one in mine,i looked into green cheek conures but i have wanted a Quaker Parrot since i was in 2Nd Grade in elementary school,so that is what i decided to go with.Any bird can be loud and bite it just depends on the bird and how much work your willing to put in,especially getting a rescue bird but some in rescues are just good birds all around.I think a conure and a budgie can get along but it depends on your bird you can't really say weather or not they'll get alone because their is a 50-50 chance they could or couldn't.From what i understand conures aren't aggressive if socialized their cuddly birds same with Sun Conures only Sun conures are loud.Good luck with your bird search if their is a green cheek on a shelter you could foster it for a while and then see if you want to adopt it like a foster into adoption,to see if everything works out.
Green Cheek Conures are great pets, under the right circumstances, and they make great companions. No, Green Cheeks aren't very good talkers at all, but that doesn't matter. Their diet should be about 30% Pelleted Diet (Zupreem and Dr.Harveys are good) which should e changed every day, and always available, 30% cooked diet (Dr.Foster and Smith has a good kind) which you can make one day and divide it among ice cube trays and freeze it, so every day you can pop out a cube and heat it up, 25% veggies, 10% seed, and 5% treats and fruits. Make sure you only leave the veggies, fruits, and cooked diet out for 3 hours so bacteria doesn't develop. For water you should teach them how to drink from a water bottle (The Rodent kind) which should be cleaned and disinfected every 24 hours. Make sure you give A LOT of toys, and about three hours of out of cage time should suffice. Hope I helped!!:)
Greencheeks are the best!
You will never find a sweeter, more loving bird.
They are extremely intelligent, and understand every word you say even if they don't talk that much.
Oh no you didn't. You stole my freaking username! But it looks like you've been on
Y!A longer than me...
Anyway, I think as long as you're ready, a conure would be a great pet for you! They can be kind of loud and agressive sometimes, but also really friendly if you spend a lot of time with them! :) It would be a good idea to rescue one and it shouldn't be that hard for it to adjust to you if you work on it. I agree with the first answer and it sounds like you would be a good owner. :)
Green cheeks make wonderful pets. They are really cuddly. However some may be considered "beaky". They can be prone to pinching every so often. It's not aggressive they may just be a little annoyed with something.
Do expect some level of parrot noise. These guys aren't generally as loud as say a sun conure but they aren't silent. Prepare for occasional screams, whistles and other various noises but generally tolerable. If you rescue an older one definitely ask if he is on the louder or quieter side if you live in an apartment or townhouse.
Flight room= good. Conures are very active and I'm sure they will adore being able to have more than just a cageful of toys and room to fly. That is very very good for any parrot!
Generally conures do well with other birds but introduce them slowly and never allow them to play unsupervised.
Conures are very loving little birds- I highly reccomend them. My mom owned one when she was in college and he was very intelligent and loving. So much so that he went to classes with her and no one really noticed.
If your worried about the noise level I'd also check out the maximillian pionus. They are quite similar to conures but generally less noisy and needy. If well socialized they can make just as good of a pet.
