Why was it ever legal for anyone to buy a gun in America, when the danger is clear?
Law enforcers do have a right to a weapon, cos they are accountable to it.
Why are we dodging the debate of this law, while blaming the mentally sick?

Well for one thing there are numerous reasons for someone owning a gun other than wanting to kill someone.
Actually, when this country first started, everyone had a weapon. Then states were formed and each state had a militia. The militia consisted of "citizen soldiers", and they would bring their own weapons, not those supplied by the state, since most states, didn't have the money or resources to purchase them. It was only later, that certain states passed laws restricting them and then the federal government. The laws weren't passed to restrict the purchase of guns, but rather to raise revenue from taxes, licenses, fees, etc.
Think about this for one moment. Compare a state, where the people are allowed to carry firearms, or have them in their houses. Now take that same state, and look at the difference, between the inner cities, where guns are basically prohibited, and the suburbs, where everyone and their mother has one. Which has the least amount of crime? Of course, the suburbs...why? Because in the city, the average criminal is the only one with a gun. In the suburbs, a criminal might have a gun, but he/she doesn't know which house or person also has a gun.
The answer is never clear. It is an Americans constitutional right to bear arms. The first thing you have to know is that guns do not kill people people kill people. Guns are just a delivery system for projectiles at a high rate of speed. Guns are not evil. It is because of guns you can be free on the Internet today. Guns in the right persons hands are not dangerous in the wrong hands just like any dangerous tool can be fatal do not blame guns blame the person that holds that weapon. I own several guns and have never hurt another living soul but let someone try to harm me or my family he will never hurt anyone again. So think about your freedoms and how you got them and see if in its history it involved a gun.
The fact is if more law abiding citizens owned guns there would be less crime. The problem is not with guns, it is with those who are criminals or are mentally unstable obtaining guns. There are several instances of law abiding citizens with guns stopping mass shootings in public.
Additionally, the Second Amendment was written so that the people could be the last line of defense in the case of an attack by a foreign power or of tyranny by the government. To not understand the Second Amendment is to not understand the relationship between government and the people envisioned by the founding fathers. The power is to rest with the people, not with governmental agencies. To disarm the people is to take away the power of the people to defend themselves.
Not everyone can buy a gun legally. There are rules and regulations in place.
We live in a free country, if you don't like it leave or get the law makers to change the rules
