Halo 3 will probably hold your attention longer even though Left for Dead seems pretty cool online. But Halo 3 has many cool features such as recording your own videos, taking pictures, new maps here and there, consistently changing multiplayer gametypes, sharing any content with friends.
Halo 3 is amazing, I still play it to this day and it's been out for over a year....
If Left 4 Dead came out the day Halo 3 did and Halo 3 was released the day Left 4 Dead was out, I can't see myself playing L4D as long as I have been H3.
Halo 3, noticeably in multiplayer Halo Wars isn't a huge-unfold-individual shooter, that's like worldwide of Warcraft or those different mmorpgs (you administration a collection of people from a chicken's eye view). So till you like video games existence WoW, then I STRONGLY propose you do not get Halo Wars. HALO 3

Halo 3 > Left 4 Daed
This is a good question because both are good games, however, there are a few aspects that both games rule over each other.
For example, Left 4 Dead is about zombies, Halo 3 carries on the halo series.
Halo 3 has about 8 hours of gameplay for campaign, and alot more of multiplayer.
Left 4 Dead has about 12 hours minimum, and can go on and on when you play with your friends.
Halo 3 and Left 4 Dead both has 4 player Co-op, however Left 4 Dead is not fun at all without friiends.
Left 4 Dead visually looks better.
See, it's a tough choice, seeing how I have both I'm going to have to go with Left 4 Dead, but it's completely your choice.
