I feel that here in the US we have lost sight of what freedom means when applied to our immigrant population. It used to mean that an immigrant was free to come here and live their lives free to practice their individual cultures, which is great, my question to you is has American culture been shoved aside in order to not offend our immigrant friends? It not only other cultures but also other religions.
All believe we should all be free to live how we want and please don't read this and think it's coming from a hateful place. It's just I really believe our culture is becoming diluted or lost all together.
Update:Hi Chances 6... Great answer. I guess it's the little things like the fight over taking "under God" out of the pledge, or you can't have a Chirstmas tree at the office anymore. Maybe I just want 1950's America again.
Anyway enjoyed reading your answer,
Thanks.

David,
I'm not sure you could make a strong case for there ever being a "single American Culture." Sectionalism, religious differences (Catholic vs. Protestant vs. Mormon, etc) and cultural differences from our own pre-emigration cultures meant that there was ALWAYS a tug and pull of one culture trying to dominate or come to terms with others.
Please take a look at Prohibition, or at the US Civil War, or at the Mormon Massacres....American history is the story of the struggle to find some common ground.
I also don't agree with you that we've bent over backwards for immigrants. Please, feel free to sight specific examples. I do think that we should insist on English Language Proficiency, because I think a common language is critical as a bonding force. But beyond that, I think that what we are seeing now is the same sort of "evolution" of American Culture that we've seen right from the start.
No, it's been surrendered. We have catered to every goofy Third World idea, including the one that "American has no culture".
Since the Left "took the moral high ground " in the sixties our country has been run into the ground by foreign ideas, Marxism, racial miscegenation and the legitimizing of criminal acts.
nicely, yeah, in case you're saying the finished climate change ingredient is a hoax, you have not been paying interest. I do agree, in spite of the undeniable fact that, that those stay shows and charities are specifically a gaggle of celebrities attempting to be what they are previous the potential of being. there's a subculture conflict. There continually has been. the in simple terms human beings dropping it are those in poverty and those unable to get adequate education because anybody care about anymore is what human beings are wearing on the pink carpet.
There is no one true American culture. We are a nation made up of other nations (and thus their cultures). So unless you mean the Native Americans (seeing that they are the only ones really from America), you have no argument, because there is no such thing. We all immigrated here in some fashion.
it is changing all the time but will never be lost as long as we exist we will have culture
you have to be a US citizen to get a good job
