My puppy turned 6 months yesterday. she went in to get spayed today... but there were complications.....
she is still alive... but the doctor said her tummy is so full of scar tissue he wasnt comfortable performing the surgery....
the doctor said he has done over 1200 spays, and he has never seen one as bad as this....
He has seen old dogs who have had multiple previous surgeries and have had tummy trauma, but none have been as severe as hers..... soon she will need to have an ultrasound to see where her uterus and ovaries are, and then after that she will probably need a much more invasive surgery to spay her, which I can imagine will be VERY expensive..... I am worried about her... We were told it was either a genetic defect, or she had SEVERE trauma with lots of internal bleeding. Ever since we got her (about 3 months of age) she has been a happy, outgoing, normal puppy... we got her from a very highly reccomended breeder. I am not sure what to make of this....
Update:its the same breeder president Obamas dog came from....

Interesting.
Suck it up and pay the additional money for the spay is all you can really do. I'd also be on the phone with the breeder to see what she knows.
Yes, definitely go back to the breeder. She needs to be brought into this because there is either a genetic issue with these dogs or there was a significant trauma of which you were not informed.
Also dig up your contract. There should be some sort of health guarantee in your contract. The breeder may be willing to assist you with the additional costs, refund your purchase price or provide you with a replacement pup.
ETA: Are you sure she hasn't already been spayed? It wouldn't be the first time a vet began a surgery to spay on a ***** who had already been spayed...
Wow. I am sorry to hear about this.
I've never been through anything like this myself.
There are a few possiblities. It is possible this breeder is not as great as you thought they were & the dog suffered severe trauma/ingery at some point without them telling you. Even if Obama has a puppy from this breeder it doesn't make them top notch. Think about it, that's like saying "Paris Hilton bought from this pet shop! I know it's good!" Well known buyers don't neccesarily mean trustworthy people.
I would contact the breeders right away & get to the bottom of this.
Wow, definitely contact the breeder and find out any info on the dog's parents, genetic history, etc. And let them know about this problem, they probably would want to know.
If the surgery to spay her would be very invasive, I would probably skip out on it. Just make sure that if you do decide against it, that you don't let her get in contact with any male dogs that aren't neutered.
If you got her from a highly recommended breeder, I would suggest calling them and tell them what is going on and see if they have any other pups or dogs with the same issues. If its genetic and they are a reputable breeder then they need to know!
You need to go right back to that highly reccomended breeder for more information on this dog. Hope you weren't scammed.
