for example.
1. write an equation of the line passing through these two points (4,-1) and (-8,-10)
2.graph the following equation.
5x-2y=-20.
HOW DO I GRAPH THAT?(or how do i graph equations like that)
3.turn this equation into y-form.
2y-x=10
(i dont clearly understand how to turn it into y-form.)
4.graph. 4x+3y=24
5. find the equation of the line perpendicular to (6,3)
(how do i find lines that go through certain numbers)

To graph put them all into y = mx + b
1. Find the slope with (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) and find y-intercept and that's the equation.
2. y = -(5/2)x - 10
3. y = (1/2)x + 10
4. y = -(4/3)x + 8
5. Not sure
Ask your teacher next time.
I used to have trouble with these, but once you understand their quite interesting.
Your teacher probably wants these in slope intercept form so that's what I'll give you. slope intercept form is y = mx + b where m is the slope of the line (rise / run) and b is the y intercept, where the line intersects with the y axis.
1) the slope formula is m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1) the slope formula works when you have to points in the setup (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) in this case you do, so the formula is m = (-10 - - 1) / (-8 - 4) or m = -9 / -12 or m= 3/4 now your equation looks like y = (3/4)x + b, we still need to find b. to do this we plug in a point we already know, (4,-1) into our equation: -1 = (3/4) * 4 + b or -1 = 3 + b or b= -4. now we know the equation of the line; y= (3/4) * x - 4.
2)The easiest way to graph this is to plug in a point for x or y and solve, and repeat, so that you have 2 points, and convert convert to slope intercept like i did above.
3) 2y - x = 10
2y = 10 +x
y = 5 + x/2
y = (1/2)x + 5
4) follow # 2
5) you need more than 1 point to graph a line. a parallel line will have the same slope as the other so you will know m, then you just put in any number for the y intercept as long as it isn't that of the other line.
hope this helps
Slope-intercept style: y = mx + b, the place m is the slope and b is the y-intercept a million.) The slope is 4, so which you already understand the equation to date is y = 4x + b. Now replace the element (a million, -2) for x and y into the equation so which you would be able to unravel for b: y = 4x + b (replace a million for x and -2 for y) -2 = 4(a million) + b -2 = 4 + b -6 = b answer: y = 4x - 6 2.) back, the slope is 3, so its equation to date is y = 3x + b. resolve for b by skill of substituting the element (5, -3) for x and y into the equation: y = 3x + b -3 = 3(5) + b -3 = 15 + b -18 = b answer: y = 3x - 18 3.) same ingredient... y = -3x + b 0 = -3(-3) + b 0 = 9 + b -9 = b answer: y = -3x - 9 4.) This time the slope is undefined, meaning the line is vertical. while the slope is undefined, the equation of the line is rapidly x = ?. The x-coordinate of the element (7, 8) is 7, so the equation of the line is basically x = 7. answer: x = 7
