Depends on the time when each nationally came to this country they were vilified by those already here and complaints about how the new people were going to take all the jobs (Micks, Wops,Pollacks,) it goes on and and on does any of this sound familiar? The name change but the same old things keep coming back over and over
During times of economic distress people often don't look for the true causes for their problems and instead blame the "others," someone who speaks a different language or looks a little different. Immigrants have become the current scapegoats. Americans sometimes blame immigrants for unemployment, but the actual culprits are job outsourcing by corporations and deregulation causing the Wall Street meltdown, which in turn caused home foreclosures, loss of savings, and job losses. In addition, immigrant migrant workers and roofers cannot be held responsible for job losses in the professional sector.
Immigrants are also getting blamed for drug smuggling and murders. Immigrants come here to find work, not to smuggle drugs and kill people. Drug smugglers go back and forth across the border, are dangerous, and are dealt with by trained agents, that is until Jan Brewer decided to fan the flames of prejudice, probably for political advantage.
Anyone can become a scapegoat, for instance Jews, blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, homosexuals, women, and scientists have all been scapegoats. Who knows who will be next.
I don't know how other people portray immigrants but for me they are mostly upstanding people in our Society. They are persistent and have done their due diligence to jump through the hoops to come to our great Country legally. Generally they are respectful of our Society and love this Country.
The same can not be said for illegal aliens however as they have no respect for this Country and cause far more damage then they could ever hope to repay!!!
There is a big difference in a legal immigrant and an illegal alien! Yes they are illegal and yes people can be illegal, to argue otherwise is to put your head in the sand so you don't see the problems this issue causes. If you are talking about illegal aliens then this is what I wrote in response to another question recently. The question was were is the vigil for the American Citizens harmed by illegal aliens.
My Son was Murdered by an illegal alien and this is a question I have had for the last 3 years. Where is the outrage for the 10's of thousands of good American citizens that have been brutally murdered over the last 9 years by illegal aliens? Where is the outrage for the 100's of thousands of American Citizens that have been sexually assaulted over the same time period by illegal aliens? Where is the Compassion for the Millions of Family members that have had to suffer the ultimate tragedy of losing a loved one or having them violated because our Government was to gutless to enforce its own laws?
The media and the liberals continue to paint the illegal aliens as the victims while the real victims suffer in silence. This must end we must stand up and be heard, there must be no Amnesty bill and those that are for Amnesty must be defeated.
Our federal government was given one major job by the Constitution and that was to protect its Citizens. It has failed miserably and has tried to paint the true victims as radical extremists and racists!
Immigrants come here legally and are accepted. If you are trying to call illegal aliens immigrants, then use the correct term - illegal aliens. They use the racism card as a defense for their criminal actions. It is not about race. I am American Indian, a teacher and I am very anti-illegal alien but have many immigrant friends. So it has nothing to do with being prejudice, just wanting our laws enforced.
Go to VOIAC
humancost.org or opjac and see the victims who will tell you it is not about race.
Immigrants are people who want to come here and participate in what makes America great. They understand that this country offers them the best opportunity at a good life and a way to realize there aspirations.
W.O.P. Stands for With Out Papers, which was a derogatory name for Italians during our big xenophobic racist craze in the 1920s. Wetbacks are stereotypical poor Mexican farmworkers who swam the Rio Grande River. The term "illegal alien" is a colloquial term used to refer to foreigners' "unauthorized presence" People are never "illegal". About 50% of "illegals" "Entered Without Inspection" mostly from Latin America, but about 50% only overstayed visas (which isn't even a crime, so while it may be an infraction, it is not "illegal").
they get jobs, they come here and within months they get jobs
I lived in the USA all my life. and a Russian guy worries about
if the black woman will get the job. when in reality a black woman
does not care about him getting any job, instead she wants the
job. what is this black rights or womens rights. there is no such
thing. what about white rights and mens rights. what about
January White History month
February Mens History month
July White men history month
immigrants are normal people. END OF.
Pejoratively by xenophobic Conservatives.
