I was told that prepaid plans are cheaper than having a bill every month. For unlimited everything i 1.25 a day. Is that true and does it include taxes? Do you buy a refill card or pay a different way? My contract is almost up and i pay 50 a month on my brother's plan. Can someone explain about the prepaid plans?

I have a prepaid plan through Alltel, the one where you pick 2 or 3 features or whatever and pay so much. I have unlimited text and unlimited mobile-to-mobile and I pay $0.75 a day, which is around $22 a month (based on a 30-day month). Before we switched to prepaid we were paying about $40 a month for phones, which is still relatively cheap, but why pay that when you can pay about $20 a month for (almost) the same features (or at least, just what you need).
You can choose between:
- Nights and Weekends
- Mobile-to-Mobile
- Favorite Number Calling
- Messaging (text, picture, and video)
For 3 features it's $1/day; for all 4 features it's $1.25/day. You can also add a monthly web pass for $5.99. There's also a web for the day pass, message packs, and ring back tones you can choose from.
So if you were to go for all 4, you would be paying about $37.50/month (based on a 30 day month) without add-ons.
They also have pay per minute and pay per month plans, but I think your best bet is the pay per day.
Anyway, you don't have to pay taxes unless you live in South Carolina (I think). I pay a flat amount of $20 whenever I refill. I don't know if you can use a refill card (but I'm sure you can), but what I do is call #PAY (which is under your contacts as Alltel Payment), and go through the steps and use my debit card information (you can also use a credit card). You can also refill online by setting up an account. (https://account.alltel.com/myaccount/alltel/portal...
As far as the kind of phone you get, I -think- the only phones you can use are the ones they have online as prepaid phones. (http://estore.alltelwireless.com/cell-phones/?tNav... I have the Samsung Freeform, and because I only text it works great for me.
Another great feature about a prepaid phone is if you don't have the money, you don't have to pay until you do get the money, and you don't $5 to reactivate your phone. My parents would often forget to make the payment on our contract phones and we would end up paying an extra $20 to have all 4 of our phones reactivated.
I love that I'm prepaid - I get all the great features of a plan for WAY less. Contracts are evil! ;P
Good luck! (:
