I suggest that you play in area where people gather the most in your community. Find out about local events that are going on and ask if you can perform there.
If you go to church, try to perform there. Ask around Coffee shops, restaurants, any business places around if they will allow you to perform there.
Set up a place of your own, maybe your garage or back or front yard, where people can come and listen to you play, maybe every other weekend or so.
Put up ads where to attract people's attention and tell them where you will be playing. If you want you can also put up ads in the newspaper.
If you have the money, maybe you can travel to other cities and set up performances there. If people like you, you may become very famous!
But go round restaurants etc and try and get some gigs there.
You might want to start charging a fairly small rate to start with, then once you have proved yourself, your talent, reliability and professionalism, you can start upping your price.
Of course you'll need a demo before hand.
In the demo try and include a wide variety of style, ie swing / jazz / soul / funk (if you do covers).
Also, a website where you can send potential clients wont hurt.
And contacting a few entertainment agents in your area and asking them what they need from you to get you on their books.
Go to a local club or coffee shop. Put an AD on websites or something and put your Myspace on the AD so they can hear you sing and play the piano. Hope that helped!
Even though i hate it i recommend myspace. It's a good way to get attention and at the least a small cult following. Id try youtube as well since people seem to respond better to it.
i play piano to and i know how it feels to not always be noticed i think you should go pick up some gigs and start from there and later on down the road you can record an album
make a few songs, open up websites (youtube, myspace) to gain popularity ... once you have a fan following, you can start staging your own shows that people would come to!
