I've always thought my eyes to be brown, but my friend insists that they're hazel.
They're mostly a dark reddish brown, but on the outer edges there's like a ripple of dark green. Like most brown eyes, they look very different in the sunlight.
Do I have hazel eyes, or are they just brown?
How does a person classify hazel eyes? Is there a certain amount of green or a certain gene you have to have?
Also, how does a person get hazel eyes? Is it a recessive trait, or is it like a mutation?

Id say you have hazel eyes.
I would consider a hazel iris to be one with both green and brown to some degree.
i agree with your friend you have hazel. People with brown eyes just look brown, in the sunlight they look a lighter shade of brown .. no other color. Mine are kind of like yours .. they appear to be light brown but in one eye around the middle I have green, and in the other eye it's kind of the same but you can see the green a little more. like you in the sunlight it's really more noticable. People will ask me every now and or say aren't your eyes brown?" or that they thought they were brown... =)
