You have to keep your question open at least 4 hours before selecting a best answer, a blue box will appear under each answer, just select one.

If your question can go to the vote, if left open for 3+ days (depending on time chosen for question to close), then anyone can pick a best answer and after a further 2-3 days, the answer with the most votes wins.

After a certain amount of time, you will see an option to choose a best answer, when you look at your question. I'm not sure, is it 24 hours after the question has been posted? You have to have received at least one answer, of course.

Your question has to be on the boards for at least 4 hours before you can pick your best answer and the question can not be closed to other answers until best answer is picked.
